It’s not overly powerful which is a good thing in Doom Eternal and for latter games.īut it’s balanced quite well it’s does pack a punch and early on before you upgrade it’s dicey to use because you’re going in close range and will get annihilated.īut on the upside once you get it fully upgraded you are able to go in close deal quite a bit of damage and kill a fodder enemy for shields. Wow yeah you’re 80% wrong the super shotgun isn’t “dead” and isn’t as bad as you’re making it out to be. I fucking love this game, but I lament the death of the super shotgun. The combat shotgun outclasses the super shotgun in almost every way through the entire game. I honestly don't get why id would nerf it so hard when you already barely have enough ammo to operate the damn thing (yes I understand the chainsaw mechanic and it works far better than I expected before I played the game, that's not what this conversation is about). In previous outings the super shotgun instantly became my main weapon as soon as it was picked up and now I hardly use it. In my lineup it's completely been relegated to meat hook duty for quick health gathering, which may have been id's intent. I had hoped the infinite ammo cheat would make it fun again, but it doesn't. I don't have nearly as much fun insta-gibbing fodder demons as before and it's total irrelevance to higher level demons means it gets sidelined almost as soon as I pick it up. With the removal of the quick loading, double shot, and deep reserve of ammo from Doom 16 it's almost made it not worth using imo.

In Doom 2 and Doom 16 the super shotgun was egregiously overpowered, there's no questioning that, but that's what made it so damn satisfying.
